Ferrari driver and fan favourite Kimi Raikkonen has said that he does not know if he will feature for the team next year and the decision on his future lies in their hands.

The Finnish driver has failed to impress this season despite teammate Sebastian Vettel storming to a 20-point lead in the drivers’ championship ahead of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.

It does appear to the vast public that he has settled into the role of being a clear number two in the team behind Vettel.

His lack of pace this year has seen him being labelled a “laggard” by Ferrari president Sergio Marchionne and has seen Ferrari drop 33 points behind Mercedes in the constructors’ standings.

This has made some doubt whether Raikkonen will be re-signed by the team, with several drivers looking to make a claim for the second seat at Ferrari.

Raikkonen was at his usual best when asked about the possibility of him staying at Ferrari next year. “The situation is the same as it was a year ago. You must ask Ferrari if you want to know more. Every year for the past ten years has been pretty much the same story. Of course, people make it a big issue but I’m not stressing about it. Life is more than just here and answering questions.”

He was quick to admit that he has endured a challenging campaign, claiming that things have not gone as per plan so far.

“I’m not happy about how some races have gone, but I cannot change it. I don’t even know how many points I have, but in any case it’s less than it should be. I know I have the speed, but sometimes it’s not enough.”
